I would appreciate any tips, suggestions, but please try to keep responses simple. If not, then the ol' MP3 player may need to come back to life. I have an upcoming trip & am hoping I get it done my then. Frustration is at an all time high - I have spent hours and hours trying to get my music back to the way it was. If I get a plug & play adapter, would I be able to transfer my music, with correct albums and tracks, from a flash drive to my iPhone & into the iTunes folder on my phone? I have no interest in Apple music and I just want to be able to listen my current library. I'm ready to delete everything and start over. Example: the entire album is listed in iTunes, only 6 out of 14 tracts transfered to my phone - the same that were previously on it. Some albums doubled up on my phone but I didn't gain any of the missing tracks, and combined albums were showing as they were prior to trying to straighten out the mess. (Since they were in iTunes and a flash drive, I got rid of the cd.) I tried to sync my phone again after going through EVERY album & every song but nothing good happened. I've had some luck with deleting the entire album and reinstall via CD into iTunes directly, but I don't have the original CD for quite a few. When I tried updating my phone, cover art started changing.

Even with making sure the album information was 100% correct, it put the wrong album in the wrong artist, changing the info listed. Some entire albums would transfer but most still would not add track 1 or it would be in an 'unknown' album and no way will it add tract 1 to the correct album. Apple must think this is funny! Didn't work. 3) Add every missing album/track back into iTunes. 2) Reinstall from flash drive all the missing albums into my Music folder - done, with checking that all tracks on every album were also re-installed. I tried their suggestion: 1) make sure the music is on my laptop - quite a bit had disappeared. I have not done anything at all with my music for the last 2-3 years. So I check, the music has disappeared entirely from my laptop. When I check, the little message that the song no longer exists in iTunes, do you want to look elsewhere pops up. iTunes has apparently decided to delete the first tract, sometime deleteing the entire list of songs but the album cover and tracts are still listed. It gets a through check up yearly, and have had no issues, so I don't feel my laptop is the problem.
